One of the sillier things I’ve read this past week is Pat Robertson’s claim that a crack in the Washington Monument following the Virginia earthquake is a political commentary from God about the direction of our nation.
God does not use natural disasters to make political points. I do not believe he decides each and every time there is a tornado, flood, earthquake, hurricane or tsunami. God would not kill all those innocent people in Japan, or destroy most of Christchurch, New Zealand, or take away all those precious lives in Alabama and Joplin.
God does not belong to a political party. He doesn’t give political endorsements. He gave us free will.
